Autumn in KL

-by Tan Hee Hui -

In June, the attic presents the Líautomne Collection series of 16 autumnal paintings by Romanian-born, Malaysian resident Lavinia Burcea, who is largely inspired by 21st Century modern and avant-garde artists.

Her paintings utilises the concept of Abstract-Expressionism and are painted with a multitude of techniques and styles with tools such as knives, brushes and make-shift tools. The painter’s bold strokes of red, orange and yellow are said to capture the essence of autumn landscapes whilst the frequent use of gold symbolises the power and prosperity of the autumn season. The essence of autumn is drawn upon in featured themes such as the weather transition, the harvest, the naked trees and well-fed women.
